Dojran Lake
Warm shallow waters and old fishing traditions
Dojran is the country's warmest and shallowest lake, shared with Greece in the far southeast — a place of reed beds, mild winters and water that reaches bath temperature by midsummer. Generations have come here for the reputed healing qualities of its water and mud.
Its signature is a fishing technique found almost nowhere else: cormorants working alongside fishermen among reed enclosures called mandri. Quieter and slower than Ohrid, Dojran is where Macedonians themselves go to unwind — tavernas on the water, fish on the grill, nothing urgent anywhere.
